Fong and Gagne Score Podium Finishes in Superbike Race 1 at Laguna Seca
Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing’s Bobby Fong and Jake Gagne finish second and third, respectively, in the opening race of the MotoAmerica Superbike tripleheader at Laguna Seca / Jul 12, 2025 /

Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing kicked off the MotoAmerica Superbike triple header weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with a double podium. Bobby Fong narrowly missed the top step, scoring a runner-up finish in Race 1, with his teammate Jake Gagne joining him on the box in third at the iconic track in Monterey, California.
Fong showed speed from the start of Round 5 of the championship, topping the timesheets in the first practice session and ultimately qualifying second. In Race 1, the Northern Californian got a good start from the front row of the grid into third and stayed in the mix as the lead group pulled away from the rest of the field. After the leader crashed on Lap 7, Fong advanced to second. He fought all the way to the finish, making a move in the final corner, but the series points leader countered, with Fong crossing the line just .367 seconds shy of victory. His fourth runner-up finish of the season moved him to within four points of his teammate, as he maintains fourth in the championship standings.
Despite challenging conditions, Gagne continued to work on finding his comfort zone and qualified fifth. He slotted into fourth behind his teammate, but was passed in the second corner. The three-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion managed his race, advancing to fourth on Lap 7, and then to third after the halfway mark after another competitor crashed. Gagne rode on to secure the third-place finish and maintain third in the points standings.
The Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing team will be back on track tomorrow for Race 2 and Race 3 of MotoAmerica Superbike Round 5 at the WeatherTech Raceway in Monterey, California.
Richard Stanboli – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing Team Manager
“Once again, we showed that our R1 is still very competitive. We just came up a little short at the end. Bobby needs to work on a little bit better race strategy for tomorrow, and we’ll make a few changes on the bike and see if we come up with a win.”
Bobby Fong – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing #50
“Race 1 here at Laguna was good overall. Second place was not what we wanted, but it was good to get the Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha on the box again. I felt like I had a little bit more pace, and I should've made a move a little bit sooner. We have two more tomorrow to try to get my first win of the season. I’m looking forward to finishing the weekend strong and to continuing our forward progression.”
Jake Gagne – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing #32
“We got lucky today and landed on the podium, but we wanted to be closer to the front. We have two races tomorrow, so we'll try some changes and keep working. I want to fight for the win.”
