The YZ250F receives significant improvements across engine performance, chassis, suspension and more

Yamaha invited top U.S. motocross media to experience the latest updates to the 2027 YZ250F at ClubMX. Their reviews highlighted its extensive updates including improved engine performance, chassis feel, upgrades to the braking, suspension, electronics, bodywork and more.

The 2027 model builds on the class-leading YZ250F with an updated engine that maintains the signature torque while significantly improving mid to top power. The engine features a YZF-R1-derived finger-follower rocker arm system that increases the rev limit by 700 rpm for more power and torque across the entire RPM range. Journalists repeatedly highlight the redesigned engine as its most notable upgrade, especially its stronger top-end, higher rev limit, broader pulling power, and more usable power delivery.

●       “An all-new engine has been designed for high-revving performance that delivers a linear engine response with more power and torque through the rpm range, increasing the rev limit by 700 rpm from the previous model.” - CycleNews

●       "This one, right out of the box, is a little smoother down low, but revs to the moon and just keeps pulling. It's like a missing piece they'd been looking for." - Racer X

●       "This thing pulled further than the previous-generation YZ250F [...] The 2027 pulls longer, keeps going further. Something I really appreciated." - Holdfast Media

●       "It just feels like the bike keeps pulling and pulling… Before, it kind of got to a point where it taps out, and this one just keeps going more and more." - MotoOnline

In preparation for 2027 FIM/AMA sound regulations, the YZ250F has been tuned from the airbox to the exhaust to meet the 109dB sound limit while maintaining the bike’s performance identity. The media’s reviews concluded that Yamaha succeeded in designing a quieter bike without sacrificing other performance measures.

●       “Noise regulations are becoming increasingly important in motocross, and Yamaha has redesigned both the intake and exhaust systems for the 2027 model.” - Pulp MX

●       “The 2027 Yamaha YZ250F has many big changes, most of which were made to comply with the impending 109 dB sound limit in AMA Pro Racing.” - Swap Moto Live

●       "Yamaha managed to increase power while reducing noise, which is no small engineering feat." - MXP Mag

●       "If you're on an older '26, you know how the pop seems raspy and rich, then lean-popping — that's non-existent with this muffler." - Racer X

The reviews consistently position the new chassis as a meaningful upgrade, praising the use of the YZ450F-derived aluminum bilateral beam frame. Thanks to its revised front downtube and updated engine brackets, reviews emphasized optimized rigidity, better cornering performance and improved straight-line stability and handling.

●       "I felt like the back wheel was so planted to the ground […] even on the sand track, when I'd be charging down the rollers with kickers in them, the bike would stay so straight and so stable that I got to a point where I was staying wide open through the whole track." - MotoOnline

●       "This bike, to me, has a lot more planted front-end feel. I can feel it when I'm going. I drop it in a rut, it stays in a rut." - Dirt Bike Magazine

●       “A calmer, more stable chassis that’s easier to corner and ride overall makes this bike one of the top competitors to win the 250 shootouts this year.” - Vital MX

●       “The balance of increased power and improved handling characteristics have pushed the bike to a new level of performance from weekend track riding to competitive racing at the highest level.” - CycleNews

Several of Yamaha’s changes make the YZ250F easier and more controllable to ride, not just faster. Journalists praised a variety of component upgrades, from the revised KYB suspension, the new hydraulic clutch, and downsized rear brake that each provide a smooth and easy experience uniquely suitable for both professional and novice motocross riders.

●       “With the hydraulic clutch [...] really good engagement, it works really well, and you don't have to worry about adjusting it on the fly or anything like that.” - Dirt Bike Magazine

●       "The beauty of the Yamaha suspension — I feel like you're just starting at a good place all the time, so even if you stiffen it up and tighten things up, it takes a lot to make it feel bad." - Whiskey Throttle

●       “Yamaha's got an all new rear brake. It's a little bit smaller. They saved some weight, a little bit more compact. The braking is excellent. As typical, fit and finish is great.” - Swap Moto Live

●       "Suspension has always been a strong suit for the YZ250F, and this year is no different. The KYB forks offer exceptional comfort and front-end feel." - CycleNews

The Power Tuner app continues to earn praise as an industry-defining feature that adds to the experience of owning a YZ250F. With the ability to adjust power delivery through custom maps and now lock the engine with password protection, the Power Tuner App continues to add modern solutions to make the user experience more personal to any rider.

●       "The added benefit of the power tuner — it's game-changing. It's the only one that's really simple and easy to use, and it really makes a difference." - Dirt Bike Test

●       “The rev map just picked up the fun factor, made it a little bit more snappy — carrying the front wheel about an inch out of the ruts through the turns made it enjoyable. And it's really easy with the power tuner app that's supplied on your phone — gets the job done.” - Motocross Action

●       “The YZ250F continues to use Yamaha’s Power Tuner App, which lets riders adjust the motorcycle’s electronic engine-management characteristics. I think this app is the best in business as it can alter the power curve and is fairly easy to navigate your way around the app!” - PulpMX

The new 2027 YZ250F will be available from dealers in Team Yamaha Blue for $9,099 MSRP, and a Monster Energy Edition for $9,299 MSRP. In summary, the test rider’s reviews consistently pointed to key upgrades in the 2027 YZ250F performance:
