Spring Creek Showstopper: Deegan Strengthens Title Defense, Martin Shines in Storybook Farewell Ride
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan wins the overall, with Jeremy Martin earning a final moto victory to secure second overall at his home track / Jul 14, 2025 /

It was a storybook ending to the Spring Creek National for the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 team. Haiden Deegan strengthened his 250MX title defense with a clutch 1-2 moto score for the overall win, while Jeremy Martin delivered an emotional farewell by winning the second moto and securing second overall (3-1) at his home track in Millville, Minnesota. Michael Mosiman overcame adversity to finish 11th overall (5-18), and Nate Thrasher battled through challenges to end the day 19th (12-20). The seventh round of the Pro Motocross season at the Spring Creek MX Park also continued Yamaha’s 70th Anniversary celebration with the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing squad debuting a special throwback livery, matching the look of the limited-edition 2026 YZ models released earlier this month.
Still working his way back to 100% after a crash in qualifying at the previous round, Deegan showed strength, topping both sessions of qualifying and heading a Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 1-2-3 in the combined times. In fourth after the start of Moto 1, he quickly went to work to claim third and then closed the gap to his teammate. On Lap 7, he made the pass for second, and then took over the lead after the race leader crashed on the following lap. Deegan was challenged late in the moto but reclaimed the lead and held strong for his seventh moto victory of the season. In Moto 2, the defending champ found himself eighth after the start and charged forward with fast, consistent laps, moving into third at the halfway mark and then into second, where he would finish to secure his fifth overall win of the season. His efforts expanded his 250MX points lead to 45 and his 250SMX combined points lead to 103, with four rounds remaining in the championship.
Back to full fitness after his crash at Round 2, it was one last ride for Jeremy Martin with the team he won back-to-back 250MX titles with in 2014 and 2015. Qualifying third, the hometown hero grabbed the holeshot in Moto 1 and ran up front, maintaining second until being passed by his teammate. When the leader crashed, Martin moved back into second and ultimately crossed the line in third. In Moto 2, he grabbed another holeshot and led the first three laps. Although he dropped back to second, he reclaimed the lead after the frontrunner went off track and continued to ride a strong pace to ultimately distance himself from his teammate and earn his final moto win by an impressive 7-second margin. It was an emotional final victory for Martin’s decorated career, which, in addition to his two 250MX titles, included 51 moto wins and 20 overall victories.
Mosiman showed speed all day, qualifying second and starting strong in Moto 1, quickly moving into fifth. The Californian was riding in fourth before tweaking his ankle and dropping back to sixth, but would come back to fifth in the final laps. After getting evaluated on site by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit and getting his ankle taped up, Mosiman lined up for Moto 2 and made his way to ninth by Lap 3. Unfortunately, he crashed on the following lap and ultimately dropped back to 29th. Mosiman regrouped and charged forward to finish 18th, salvaging points and earning 11th overall on the day.
It was a tough outing at the Spring Creek MX Park as Thrasher worked to find his comfort zone on the fast track, qualifying 21st. With a less-than-ideal gate pick, he had a decent start and made his way to 12th in the final laps, where he would finish. He got a better start to Moto 2, but unfortunately got caught up in a first-turn pile-up and found himself at the back of the field. Thrasher put his head down and fought his way to 19th, ultimately crossing the line 20th and ending the day 19th overall.
Next weekend, the team heads to the Pacific Northwest for the Washougal National, Round 8 of Pro Motocross and Round 25 of the SuperMotocross World Championship, on July 19 at the scenic Washougal MX Park in Washougal, Washington.
Wil Hahn – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 250 Team General Manager
“It’s kind of hard to top that. Haiden got the overall and extended his points lead, and for Jeremy to end his career like that at his home race—it was all pretty special. We had 1-2-3 in qualifying for the team with Haiden, Michael, and Jeremy. I know it was a rough Moto 2 for Nate and Michael, but all in all, I don’t know if we could’ve had a better day.”
Haiden Deegan – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #1
“Qualifying went well — I went 1-1, so that was perfect. Then Moto 1 was solid. It was a pretty gnarly battle. Being off the bike all week was kind of rough. I was pretty much couch-ridden, so to come out with the win in the first moto, I was pretty pumped about that. Then in the second moto, I ended up second and JMart won, so that was pretty sick. I got the overall and gained some good points, so it was a good day. I’m going to keep getting healed up. On to Washougal."
Jeremy Martin – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #6
“I was in a tough place at Pala and Hangtown. I was a mid-pack guy and wasn’t even in the top 10. I hadn’t been riding or doing anything, but we found some good settings when I came back, after I got better from my crash. I had a really good five days on the motorcycle when I was down there with the Star Racing Yamaha crew. On my last day, I said, 'If I can ride like that at Millville, I can win.’ The stars aligned. I got two amazing starts on that beast of a machine — the Yamaha — and here we are. I didn’t think I had it anymore. It’s been a really rough two to three years with a lot of injuries. I don’t think I could’ve scripted a better ending.”
Michael Mosiman – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #93
“There were a lot of positives to today. I qualified second and got a decent start to Moto 1. I was in a really good spot, I think I was fourth or fifth, and then I ended up tweaking my ankle in a corner, but I pushed through and finished fifth. Then it was kind of a fire drill in between motos to go to Alpinestars (Mobile Medical Unit) to get it looked at, wrapped up, and ready for the next one. I didn’t quite get a good start to Moto 2, but I worked my way into ninth and was riding well. I was trying to make a pass into eighth, and in the second roller section had a pretty big crash, and then got up from that and had another close call. To get fifth in the first moto with a bum ankle and to be qualifying well, it all shows that things are still going in the right direction. I felt good and was just pushing until the end of the moto. I’m happy to be moving on and looking forward to Washougal.”
Nate Thrasher – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #41
“It was a tough day for me. I didn’t qualify great. The track was pretty high speed, and I just couldn't quite get comfortable. After not getting a good start, I salvaged what I could, and in Moto 2, I actually got a good start but got caught up in a pile-up. It was the third weekend in a row, going down on the first lap and fighting my way back. So we’re going to go home and regroup, and keep trying to get better each week.”
