Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac strengthens his title defense with 51st-career 450 Supercross victory

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing's Eli Tomac put on another masterclass performance in challenging conditions to take the overall win with a 1-2-1 score at last night's final Monster Energy AMA Supercross Triple Crown event of the season. The reigning 450SX Champion's stellar ride at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, puts him back up front in the title chase with a seven-point lead. It also marked his 51st victory in the premier class to lay claim to second on the all-time win list behind Jeremy McGrath.

Although it's not his home state of Colorado, the Supercross round in Arizona feels like home, with lots of friends and family in attendance. Tomac got the final round of this year's Triple Crown off to a good start and qualified second. He then grabbed the holeshot in the first main event and rode on to victory. The reigning 450SX champ got another good start in the second main event and quickly took the runner-up spot. Tomac claimed the lead after the frontrunner made an error but was passed back shortly after and would ultimately cross the line comfortably in second. In the final race of the night, he got another flying start and was battling up front on the heels of the leader before quickly claiming the front spot with a pass in the whoops. Tomac rode superbly on the hard-packed track and remained unchallenged to take the overall victory with a 1-2-1 score. His seventh win of the season bolstered his title defense, giving him a seven-point lead with five rounds remaining.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team heads to Georgia next weekend for Round 13 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and the SuperMotocross World Championship series at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on April 15.

Jeremy Coker – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager

"It was a great night. The whole day went as planned. Eli and the team had a plan and a goal coming into the weekend, and it was executed flawlessly. I am proud of the whole team, and we look to keep the momentum rolling.”

"It was a fantastic triple crown for us. This year I had two crashes in the first two triple crowns, so my goal for the day was to be mistake-free. We did that, and we gained some very important championship points as well. It was a very slick and dry, hard-packed Phoenix track, one of the drier ones that we've had in a long time. For me, it was kind of fun because it's a surface that we don't get all the time. It was just a new challenge. The bike worked great on that surface, and we got really great starts. You can't beat first overall.”
