Cooper Finishes Fourth at Southwick National 450 Debut

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Justin Cooper finishes fourth overall in punishing conditions at The Wick 338 / Jun 30, 2024 /

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Justin Cooper secured a fourth overall finish with a 5-6 moto score at yesterday’s Round 5 of the Pro Motocross Championship at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusets. At one of the most physically demanding tracks on the calendar, it was a solid first outing for the 450MX rookie who was also not feeling 100% after a practice crash earlier in the week.

Cooper had a strong start to the Southwick National, qualifying third in the combined times. He then got off to a solid start in the first moto and was seventh after the first lap. The New Yorker kept pushing and crossed the line fifth for his seventh top-five moto finish in nine tries in the 450 class. In the second moto, he got a better start in third and was shuffled to fifth on that opening lap. Cooper soldiered on in the punishing conditions and finished sixth to secure fourth overall.

Next weekend the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team heads to RedBud MX for Round 6 of Pro Motocross and Round 23 of the SuperMotocross World Series on July 6 in Buchanan, Michigan.

Jeremy Coker – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 Team Manager
“All in all, it was a good day. We had a crash during the week, so Justin was pretty sore and this was a bad race to be coming in sore. This was probably one of the gnarliest Southwick tracks we’ve ever had. He rode awesome and was fourth overall on the day. We’ll regroup and try to get back on the podium next week.”

Justin Cooper – Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing #32
“It was a good day overall. I had a big crash on Monday this week. I did a superman, and just whiskeyed off the bike, but somehow came away not too bad from that and just rested up until today. It was gnarly out here today. The track was definitely the worst I’ve seen it. It doesn’t help leaving after the 250s were out and I wasn’t used to it. Man, I tried though. I definitely put in some effort out there, but my back started spasming about halfway through the second moto and I had to get through it. Fourth on the day was good, but I want to get back up on the box though - that’s the goal. So we’ll go back to work.”
